The library provides PCs for use by both library patrons and out-of-town guests. Our PCs run on Microsoft Windows XP and 2000 and are equipped with standard Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and Powerpoint). Other programs include Adobe Acrobat reader, Microsoft Streets and Trips and numerous children's programs.
To log on to a PC, you will need your library card and its associated PIN. If you do not know your PIN, please ask at the circulation desk and we will be happy to set a new PIN for you.
Internet Access
Our 10 PCs all access the Internet with the Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser version 6.0. We employ a strict filtering system as required by Federal Law. The library has its own acceptable use policy which must be followed at all times. The library reserves the right to revoke a patron's internet access should this privilige be abused.
Session Sign Up and Duration
PCs numbered 1-8 are intended for adult patrons. PCs 9-10 are reserved for our patrons under the age of 16. Patron's may log in to these PCs for one hour long sessions. You may log on for an additional 2 sessions in succession provided there is no one signed up on the waiting list. Your total computer access time is limited to 3 hours per day.
PC 12 is an "Express" machine with only 1/2 hour sessions available. If you sign up for PC 12, you must wait one hour after logging off before logging on to any other PC.
Waiting List
In order to ensure that everyone has a chance to use our PCs, we employ an automated waiting list. This list is in effect once all PCs are full. You sign up for the waiting list at a dedicated PC located at the end of the circulation desk near the magazines. The waiting list assigns patrons to a specific PC once it becomes available. Once the waiting list assigns you to a PC, you have 5 minutes to log on to that PC or the PC will be assigned to the next patron in the queue.
If not all PCs are occupied, you do not need to use the waiting list.
PC 12 (the express PC) is exempt from the waiting list queue and is strictly first-come, first-serve.
Printing
Two printers are available for patron use. Printing in black and white costs 10 cents per page and printing in color costs 50 cents per page. In order to print materials from a PC, you must first deposit appropriate funds into your account, which you can do at the circulation desk.
Disk and CD-ROM Access
You are welcome to bring documents and other materials from another PC to use at the library provided they are on either a 3.5" floppy disk or a storage device that uses a USB connection. We are sorry, but there is no access from CD-ROM drives on our PCs.
Assistance and Training
In addition, we also provide one-on-one training sessions for those interested in brief tutorials on specific topics. To schedule a session, please contact the Reference Department at 717-533-6555, extension 3706.
