Here is an overview of our Public Access Computer security policies.

What we do:

  • Filtering as per the Children's Information Protection Act.
  • Automatic document deletion through Smart Access Manager (SAM).  When you click "End Session," your data is erased once another patron logs on.
  • Automatic deletion of internet history and cookies after your session.
  • Strict anti-virus and anti-malware protocols in place.
  • Hard drive locks to wipe clean anything that evades security at the end of the day.
What you can do:
  • Remember the library is a PUBLIC place; although none of your activity is tracked, people walking by CAN see what you are doing.
  • Use the "private browsing" mode in Mozilla Firefox (Tools - Start Private Browsing or CTRL + SHIFT + P) and Google Chrome (Click on the wrench icon at the top right, and then select New Incognito Window).
  • Save your files to UBS/flash drive, CD, floppy disk, ZIP drive, or other online service.  Because we do not save your data, we cannot recover your data.
  • Make sure you use secure sites for any financial transactions (look for https:// in the address bar).  If you are using our wireless network, remember that it is a categorized as an "non-secure" network and thus we advise that you do not conduct transactions such as online banking in accordance with our Wireless Access Policy.
