Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader awards provide young readers with an opportunity to voice their opinions about new books being written for them. The most popular books in each age group become the Children’s Choice Book Award finalists.  See the 2020 finalists.

 

PA School Librarian Association Recommendations for Juvenile Readers

Each year, the Pennsylvania School Librarian Association (PSLA) nominates quality books for the PA Young Reader’s Choice Award.  You know what that means….Kids get to vote for their favorite!  Follow the link for the PSLA website of current nominees and past winners. 2020 winners.

 

Caldecott Award

Each year, the Association for Library Service for Children awards the Caldecott Medal to “the artist of the most distinguished picture book for children.”  The award is named after Randolph Caldecott, a renowned illustrator of the 19th century.  Although only one book is selected each year to receive the Medal, several books are also given the Caldecott Honor distinction. List of Medal and Honor winners!

 

Newbery Award for Younger Readers

 

Each year, the Association for Library to Children awards the John Newbery Medal to “to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.”  John Newbery was a British publisher, especially of children’s books. Like the Caldecott Award, only one book is chosen to receive the Newbery medal but additional notable books are named Newbery Honor books. List of Medal and Honors winners!
