Pediatrics, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, published an article on the impact of racism on child and adolescent health.
Sesame Street Workshop, in conjunction with CNN, will host a townhall for families on racism, the recent nationwide protests, embracing diversity and being more empathetic and understanding. Familiar characters such as Big Bird, Ernie, and Abby Cadabby will participate with CNN anchor Erica Hill.
Jennifer Harvey, professor of religion at Drake University, Iowa, wrote a recent column for CNN on raising anti-racist children. In her article, she notes that it can be difficult to start a conversation about diversity and racism with our children. What follows is a list of library resources that parents and caregivers may use to spark conversation with their children. All resources are in the library’s physical collection and many are available on Hoopla and Overdrive. Physical resources will be available for lobby pick-up beginning June 8, 2020.
