Summer Quest is a virtual program. The theme this summer will be “Tails and Tales”, a reading challenge for children ages 0-11. Summer Quest begins on Tuesday, June 1 and ends on Saturday, August 21. We hope you will participate as a family! If you have questions, please contact Rita Smith at email@example.com
Step 1. Register.
Step 2. Read books, log activities, and experience new things.
Step 3. Earn virtual badges and a book.
For babies and toddlers from ages 0-4.
For young children ages 5-11.
Take your little reader through the Tails and Tales by sharing 5 simple activities: PLAY, TALK, READ, WRITE, & SING. Your goal is to try at least 3 of each type of activity with your little one. In Beanstack, families will find a list of 5-6 activities for each category of early literacy practices. There are 5 badges to earn, one for each practice. Once you have done 3 of each, you have completed the program. The 5 early literacy practices are recommended by the Pennsylvania Library Association and are part of the Every Child Ready to Read initiative of the Public Library Association and the Association of Library Services to Children.
Discover Tails and Tales at the Hershey Public Library this summer. This year’s summer reading program will include Furry Tales, The Story Garden, Stories for Everyone, and other fun-filled programs for children and families.
Summer Quest provides a no-pressure and fun way to continue reading over summer vacation thereby maintaining reading skills mastered during the school year.
A book will be awarded for meeting the reading challenge which is to read 720 minutes: about 20 minutes a day for 6 weeks. What counts as reading minutes? Children being read to (this includes children of all ages), children reading by themselves, reading to a sibling, a grown-up, or a friend. Listening to audiobooks also counts! We have audiobooks on CD for children and PlayAway audiobooks for older children. And, don’t forget audiobooks and e-books on Hoopla and OneDrive, TumbleBooks, BookFlix through Power Library, and Storyline Online. Please visit our e-Library page for links.
Download the Beanstack Tracker app for your mobile device from the Apple App Store and Google Play for Android to record reading sessions, to scan ISBN barcodes to add titles to your Log (available only on smartphones; and tablets), and manage family reading logs and view statistics. New this year is the Leaderboard, so you can compete with friends and family for the most badges and points.
Virtual Milt the Mouse. Participants in the Hershey Public Library Summer Quest will want to follow clues and learn his weekly secret code to earn badges. He changes his location every Monday. Clues will be posted on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. From June 7 through August 7 with a new puzzle and code every week.
The last day to log reading minutes will be August 21.
