2020 Friends Annuak Book Sale is Canceled this Year.
The Friends of the Hershey Public Library has canceled the 2020 Book Sale because of health and safety concerns from the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The annual sale, which features thousands of books for all ages, was scheduled to take place July 31 through Aug. 5. The event is the Friends’ largest fundraiser; all proceeds go toward supporting the library.
“Even with the Hershey Public Library recently resuming some functions, the Friends’ board feared we could not adequately protect patrons during this popular event,” said Book Sale Chair Anne Reeves.
“We are saddened to cancel this great summer tradition, but will be back next year with even more wonderful books for our devoted readers.”
Book Sale donations have been suspended since Gov. Wolf issued the statewide stay-at-home order. They will likely resume when Dauphin County enters the green phase of reopening.
Anyone interested in supporting the work of the Friends of the Hershey Public Library can make a donation or join the Friends on a variety of membership levels.
Usually, the annual book sale takes place during the first week in August. Friends members may attend Preview Night, the Friday before the Book Sale begins, to enjoy making early purchases and the best bargains.
The library depends on your donations of gently used books, dvds, video games, magazines and puzzles as a substantial portion of our annual fundraising efforts, which in 2019, the Friends Annual Book Sale helped to raise over $45, 500.
